AIOTHO

In the Netherlands it is possible to formally combine Family Medicine Specialty Training with research training in practice as Family Medicine research trainees. This program prepares young Family Medicine trainees for a career as clinician-researcher. The program typically lasts 6.5 years leading to registration as a Family Medicine Doctor / Specialist and a PhD thesis. At the moment, nearly 60 trainees follow the combined program at one of the eight Dutch specialty training departments.
Maastricht has a long history of supervising Family Medicine research trainees since 1997. More information and a national overview of Family Medicine research trainees can be found at: www.aiotho.nl
